Northern Darkness Garrison Trooper Survival Guide

First off, welcome! Please be sure to review the 501st Trooper Survival Guide located here and the NDG pinned forum subjects listed here. Note that the below are general guides; if a statement conflicts with local law, venue rules, or the 501st Legion rules, those should preempt any statement made here. When in doubt, check with Command Staff.

Weapons Policy

Troopers should be sensitive to how prop weapons can be perceived by the general public. Some people may react negatively to the presence of seemingly real firearms, particularly if they are pointed at bystanders. As such, troopers should:

Treat your weapon as if it were real. Assume that bystanders will see it as a live firearm with lethal potential.
Always practice good muzzle and trigger discipline. Never point your weapon at another person unless permission is expressly given, for example as part of a photo pose.
Do not hand your weapon to non-501st members. Your weapon is associated with your costume, and separating the two will further increase the chance of it being mistaken for a real firearm.
When traveling to and from an event and out of costume, make every reasonable effort to have the weapon concealed or in a holster to minimize perceived threat.

Guests and Loaning of Costumes

Guests and handlers should conduct themselves with the same decorum as full members when at an event. Guests generally should not accept benefits (free admission, refreshments, etc.) unless expressly permitted by NDG Command Staff AND event organizers.

Modifying Costumes

Remember that your costume was cleared as it fits you and as it matches a Canon character. Modifications such as kilts, custom blasters, stickers, patches, etc. may not always be appropriate. In general, if the 501st/NDG has been invited to attend or if an event is in support of a commercial entity (including charity troops at a commercial venue), customizations should be avoided.

Vaping

Troopers should generally avoid use of ‘vape’ products while in costume or when representing the 501st/NDG. It is advisable to check a venue’s rules and local laws prior to bringing or using such products.

General Decorum

When in costume or representing the 501st/NDG to the public (staffing a table, negotiating with event sponsors, interacting with event staff, etc.), troopers should conduct themselves professionally and with courtesy. “Business Casual” decorum is a general guideline.
