Welcome to my Biker Scout refurbishment thread, or how I learned to stop worrying and love Matty Pee Pee.

Rhea was kind enough to let me purchase the Altmann's helmet from her since it's apparently one of the only helmets out there that will fit my giant noggin. Thanks Rhea!!!!!!!!!!!

Chris, this may look familiar to you! ;)

I received the helmet like this:

I took a quick look at it and decided that I'd like to have a clean Scout helmet for display.

So I started cleaning it up a bit and noting what I'd need to do...

So I got it to this stage...

This is a before and after.

Image

While cleaning up the weathering, I noticed a few things...

Number one below: The circled area was a rogue glob of super glue that had been painted over. I was able to scrape that off (no after pictures for that :( )

Image

Number two: Then, while cleaning and wiping, I noticed that I had smeared the cheap inkjet printed decal stripes. So I replaced those...

Next up, I redid the three lines above the lens. I'm not sure I'm going to replace the nose bridge decal yet. That one isn't too bad...

I did some more research on the two traps on the back and noticed that they were also inaccurate decals and cheaply printed. I did some more research over at Star Wars Helmet .com http://www.starwarshelmets.com/star_war ... helmet.htm

and noticed that the trap's stripes were shaped differently.

So, I redid those too. (New on the left, old on the right)

I might re-do the black vent stripes to match the screen-used helmet... Not sure about that though...

After sleeping on it, I've decided that I'm not happy with the new trap decals. The grey is too light and the stripes are too tall. I'll be revising them today.

I think I'm also going to make new vent decals too, to match the screen used helmet.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

Wow how did I miss this? Looks great Matty Pee Pee!!!! It looks like brand new, no even even better than brand new. People are gonna start to talk you being anal like me and what not, they nicked named me overkill Ruck, then they dropped the Ruck, now it's just overkill. Guess they got tired of the long name. I'm not real sure where and why they call me that but hey when in Rome. Lol hahahah ok so I know why lol.
