Well...It took a while but I've finally done it. Ordered my ANH Stormtrooper Armor from RS.

The wait for it to arrive is going to be agonizing!!!

I actually ordered my suit from RS Propmasters facility in person. I was able to visit their facility while I was on vacation and they took my measurements while I was there (just got to make sure I don't put on any weight or lose any so that it fits properly!). I was there for an hour and a half during which time I met the guys (and girls) who actually make the suits. Its a really, really cool place. The folks there were absolutely awesome and unbelievably accommodating. I got some photos while we were there. When I next see you guys, I'll bring 'em to show you.

Anyway, delivery takes 6 weeks and we are currently 3 weeks in....the suspense of the wait is agonizing. I am SOOOOO excited. It can't get here quick enough!

Of course once it does get here, next step is to get 501st approval....So, what do I need for that?

Are they building it for you? They built mine too, you will most likely have to make small adjustments as I did but they are experts and any adjustments will be minor. They also do a good job making it to accommodate minor weight gains and losses. I've gain 25lbs and lost 30lbs and it always fits fine. You'll most likely be wanting to upgrade the bucket by putting better padding and fans in. I would start looking for fans trust me, ask anyone here fans are a must. They help in the heat and the cold. In the heat they help circulate air to help keep you a little bit cooler, in the cold they help to keep the lenses from fogging up. As far as 501st approval I would suggest you talk with the guys here and set up a photo shoot to get the proper pics. Matty PP and Duffy do a real good job both have taken pics for me. Caleb has taken photos for me on a couple occasions also and does a really good job too!!! I'm not sure if he's available but you can always ask.

Yes, they are building it for me. I asked them about doing it myself and they said some customers do but they also have lots of folks who try it and end up going back to get them to do it. Despite the offers of help from Mark, Cliff and others, I decided as this was the first armor I had to get it done properly.

Does anyone recommend a particular fan for my helmet? Seems like there are lots out there. Also what are folks thoughts on electronics for static bursts (something like the Icomm).

Also what about storage when I am not wearing it. do you leave it in the box or do you have some sort of mannequin?

trooperbay is now selling fan units and also a guy by the name of UKSWRAITH on most of the detachment forums can help out too.

The FISD forum is a great resource.

Welcome to the RS club. I enjoy my kit. Be prepared to make some adjustments as the guys say. Good to get some strapping and snaps ahead of time. As far as the storage, Home Depot sells a Husky 60 gal case in the tool aisle. Line it with foam and protect your investment. Here's mine, painted for trooping. Good luck

Thanks awesome, thanks...I like that idea. Like the paint job too!!! What sort of foam did you use?

You also mention strapping and snaps. What are they for and where do I get them from?

straps and snaps are what hold all your armor pieces together.. RS will include all of that with your armor so you dont have to buy them.

As for fans most of use use these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EL ... UTF8&psc=1

you will need a 5v USB battery pack. you can get them just about anywhere. anithing over 6000kva will be too big for your bucket. I personaly run a Blackweb 5600kva pack from walmart ($10) and get about 8hrs for two fans out of each charge

Hey Duff,

Thanks for the info. I've got a couple of 5000mAH batteries on the way already as using the USB PSU's seemed the way to go. The armor actually arrived yesterday and I've put it on twice and it's incredibly hot (I was indoors when I put it on so goodness know what it would be like outside!!) so I can certainly see the need for them. The key is where should I install them and how is best to attach them (am think velcro in case they need to be replaced).

As for the straps and snaps, Scott mentioned getting some as my armor may need some minor adjustment. It seems to fit pretty well for the most part though I do note the loops for the thigh armor seem a little on the long side as I have to wear the waist belt quite high to get the armor into a comfortable spot but when I do that, the wait belt is quite a bit above my waist so the belt droops down, the armor drops a bit and I end up shuffling along like C3PO as I can't bend my knee's!! I also find the upper arm armor is a little restrictive but I think that may because I am not quite be putting it on quite right. Any insight into either of these would be welcomed.

Then I just need some photos for the 501st approval....

Hi Ld. You can get strapping material from JoAnn fabric. I bought two types. Elastic and regular. Elastic is forgiving and easier to fit your body, but wears over time. RS will provide you with elastic straps. I chose to restrap with regular straps. It's a personal preference.
